Monasterio de San Miguel de las Dueñas

It was founded in the 10th Century and later restored in the 12th Century, following Cister´s principles. It was first called San Miguel de Almázcara. This Benedictine Monastery is the most important from the Neoclassic in El Bierzo region.

The Fountain of Life is inside the monastery. It was built in 1742 (the legend tells that, if we drink seven times, we will maintain our health forever). There are relevant artistic examples as well.

It was restored in 18th century.

Relevant features:

Romanesque main front, 17th Church with Baroque reredos and the famous reliquary in the choir, La Virgen de la Majestad (The Virgin of Majesty), from 17th century and its cloisters.
